Mr. McDermott has defended numerous companies
in class actions from allegations of
securities fraud, including a major brokerage house,
Arthur
Andersen & Co., McCulloch
Aircraft, TransScrypt, Maxxam, Bell & Howell,
McCulloch Oil, Steckol Petroleum, and
numerous
others. He has handled over 200 construction litigation matters,
and over 100
matters
involving two of the largest land developers in the country, including
class actions,
Attorney General
investigations, District Attorney investigations, HUD investigations
and
related matters.
In the area of anti-trust, Mr.
McDermott has represented the PGA Tour, Contax Cameras,
Powerine
Petroleum, Raley’s Markets and
Lawry’s Foods.
In the computer industry, Mr.
McDermott has handled numerous cases for Packard Bell,
Electronic
Associates, Potter Instruments,
Honeywell, and IBM.
In the intellectual property field, he
has litigated on behalf of Electronic Associates,
Precise Exercise
Equipment Company
(inventors of the Ab-Trainer/Ab-Roller, the largest
selling consumer
product in U.S. history), Agouron, Warner Lambert, and Pfizer.
Mr.
McDermott has been a Fellow of the
American College of Trial Lawyers since 1982.
He is
a past chair
of the Litigation Section of the State
Bar of California. He is a past
president of the Association of
Business Trials Lawyers and of the UCLA Law
Alumni
Association.
For many years, Mr.
McDermott has
been active in the Ninth Circuit, the Federal court system
covering the
western United States. As a
member of the
Executive Committee of the Ninth
Circuit
Judicial Conference, he has served as the program chair of
that conference, and the chair
of the
conference in 1989. Since
then, he has been a member of
the Advisory Board of the Ninth
Circuit
(formerly Senior Advisory
Board) and was recently the chair of the
Advisory Board.

McDermott was Adjunct Professor of Law at Southwestern
University from 1982 to 1992
